Canada scrapped its controversial digital services tax after President Trump said he was suspending trade talks with Canada last week. President Emmanuel Macron of France criticized tariffs levied by powerful nations as “blackmail.”

Good afternoon, everybody. Every country on the planet needs to have good trade relationships with the United States. And it was a mistake for Canada to vow to implement that tax that would have hurt our tech companies here in the United States. We’re going to be sending letters out starting pretty soon. We’re going to send — and we’re going to say, “Congratulations. We’re allowing you to shop in the United States of America. You’re going to pay a 25 percent tariff or a 35 percent or 50 percent or 10 percent.”
