How Indian rice export ban affects the world
India accounts for over 40% of global rice exports, with China and the Philippines among the largest importers of non-basmati rice. Rice exports from India hit a record level of 22.2 million tonnes in 2022. It is not known at present whether the government will restrict exports of basmati and parboiled rice, which stood respectively at 4.4 million tonnes and 7.4 million tonnes last year.
