Shares of Canara Bank(up 2.39 per cent), State Bank of India(up 1.34 per cent), Bank of Baroda(up 1.3 per cent), Punjab National Bank(up 0.67 per cent) and Federal Bank Ltd.(up 0.35 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, ICICI Bank Ltd.(down 3.25 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd.(down 2.02 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(down 1.81 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd.(down 1.05 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(down 0.45 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Bank index closed 1.42 per cent down at 53595.25.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 265.8 points at 24008.0, while the BSE Sensex stood down 880.34 points at 79454.47.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 11 ended in the green, while 39 closed in the red. Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, Union Bank India and Welspun India were among the most traded shares on the NSE. Shares of Stampede Cap(DVR), KPR Mill, Commercial Syn Bags, Faze Three Ltd and Reliance Naval & Engg hit their fresh 52-week highs in today’s trade, while Hindprakash Ind, Nakoda Group Of Ind, AGS Transact Tech, Gensol Engg and One Mobikwik Systems hit their fresh 52-week lows.
